The True West Adventure Race is no ordinary event—it’s a bold expedition into some of the most remote and rugged wilderness Aotearoa has to offer. Over the last three editions, hosted in Franz Josef, Hokitika, and Haast, we’ve taken teams on extraordinary journeys through wind-swept coastlines, dense native bush, glacial valleys, and high alpine terrain. These are courses that test human endurance and resilience over 24 to 48 hours of non-stop racing.

Providing medical support in these environments is no small feat. It demands a team that is not only highly skilled but also adaptable, self-reliant, and composed under pressure. That’s why we chose TOC (The Outdoor Company) as our medical support crew for all three events. Their team embodies the rare combination of professionalism, preparedness, and calm under fire. They’re nimble, responsive, and most importantly, they understand the unique demands of adventure racing in the wild.

TOC medics don’t just show up—they embed themselves in the event, working around the clock in all conditions, often in remote and hard-to-reach locations. Their ability to operate with minimal infrastructure while providing top-tier care has earned the trust and gratitude of our racing teams, event crew, and organisers alike.

 We can't speak highly enough of The Outdoor Company and the outstanding paramedic services they provide for the NZ Jetsprint Association. Jetsprinting is a high-speed, high-risk sport, and having a calm, professional medical team on hand is absolutely essential. Gareth and his team have been incredible — whether responding to drivers involved in high-speed crashes or quickly attending to medical incidents among spectators, they handle every situation with skill, care, and absolute professionalism. Gareth’s calm and methodical approach under pressure gives everyone confidence that they are in the best possible hands. We are grateful for their support and will definitely be using The Outdoor Company again for our future events.
